In the Theatre Department at Mesa State, you won't get lost in the shuffle. With around 130 majors, the Department is large enough to produce an intensive performance schedule consisting of nearly 30 offerings per year, yet small enough for faculty members to devote their energies to the development of each student.

The Theatre Department offers majors in four concentrations, each leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree: Acting/Directing, Music Theatre, Dance, and Technical Theatre/Design. There are also minors in the following area: Dance, Theatre, and Speech.

All four concentrations offer a balanced approach that emphasizes the development of the young artist and promotes real-world experiences leading to careers in the theatre. Students receive additional training by guest artists from around the world such as Broadway director BT McNicholl; Blue Man Group's Michael Rahhal; and renowned choreographers such as Jay Franke, John Pennington, and Jessica Lang. Graduates of Mesa State's programs can feel confident that they are prepared for success, whether in the pursuit of advanced academic training, entering the profession, or creating their own companies.

Mesa State Theatre is rated first in technical theatre and second overall in a Denver Post ranking of Colorado Colleges. From September to May, four mainstage shows are produced ranging from light comedies to musicals to classics. Performances take place in the 600-seat William S. Robinson Theatre in the Moss Performing Arts Center, 1100 North Avenue, Grand Junction. Also in the Moss Performing Arts Center is the intimate Mesa Experimental Theatre (MET). The space features student-directed works, drama society productions and other shows that are out of the ordinary.
