The Acting Program At...

Young Harris College

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre trains students, within a liberal arts context, in all phases of the theatre and prepares them to advance successfully into graduate programs in theatre. Students demonstrate a developed range of practical acting skills at a high artistic level, the ability to operate effectively as a theatre technician in a production setting and an understanding of the history and literature of theatre and the ability to communicate about it thoughtfully.

On the path to receiving a degree, YHC Theatre students are immersed in a full range of theatre courses, including acting, stage movement and dance, theatre history, dramatic literature, stagecraft and design. Additional workshops may include the areas of audition technique, period dance, stage combat and stage makeup. The department boasts an outstanding faculty with decades of real-world stage experience.

The YHC Theatre department produces five shows each year through Theatre Young Harris. While all Theatre students are encouraged to participate in all theatre productions, non-majors are also encoraged to get involved and around 30-40 non-major students participate in the production program each year. All production areas are staffed by students, including stage management, box office, lighting and sound control and scenery and costume construction.
