Univ. of Hawaii

The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa is internationally recognized for its unique multicultural approach to the study of Theatre and Dance. Its unique location in the middle of the Pacific allows for a rich exposure to theatre and dance from the East and West, both for students and the community at large.

The Department is loosely organized into the following focus areas: Asian Theatre, Western Theatre, Design, Youth Theatre, and Dance. Both the academic program and the full season of productions in the beautiful Kennedy Theatre complex aim to expose students and audiences to works from each of these focus areas.

The Department offers Undergraduate degrees (BA in Theatre, BA or BFA in Dance) and Graduate degrees in Theatre (MA, MFA, and PhD) and in Dance (MA, MFA).

Imaginative and creative individuals interested in the disciplined, practical application of classroom theory are suitable candidates as theater majors. Teaching and professional stage, film, and television work are typical professions of theater majors, but the analytical and practical skills, discipline and self-confidence, creativity, problem solving, and ability to work toward common production goals are applicable to all professions.

The theater major will benefit from a comprehensive curriculum that includes the world's most noted Asian theater program and a nationally respected youth theater program.
