The Department of Theatre Arts at Bradley Univerity is an artistic and educational community that values creativity, innovation, and imagination fired by passion, balanced with excellence in craftsmanship, and tempered with discipline and knowledge.
Our mission is to educate theatre artists and their audiences in the intellectual foundations, global traditions, and creative processes of the art of theatre. The Department of Theatre Arts is committed to being a prominent theatre education program nationally recognized for our global perspective, our commitment to excellence in creative expression and scholarship, and for providing a multifaceted educational experience within a nurturing, student-focused environment. Founded on the best traditions of a comprehensive education, we offer our students exceptional opportunities to interact with leading theatre professionals through the Iben Lectureship and internships, the challenge of taking a leadership role in the collaborative process, and an open invitation to be a part of an artistic home that unites faculty, students, staff and alumni.
The Department of Theatre Arts fosters academic achievement, artistic and educational collaboration, freedom of expression, and personal integrity. We stress dignity and respect of the individual and the practice of inclusiveness. Above all, we believe in the power of the theatre to influence our changing world.
Concentrations are courses of study that allow select students an opportunity to pursue a heightened educational experience in a specific area of interest. Concentrations build on the experiences and training offered through the BA/BS Theatre Arts major. Entrance into either the Performance or Production concentration is by Audition or Portfolio Review only. Concentration auditions and portfolio reviews are open to all students and are scheduled annually. Please review the department calendar for dates and times. Following the invitation to enroll in a concentration, a student has the option of perusing the concentration or continuing in the BA/BS Theatre Arts track. Concentrations are not required for graduation and may be dropped at any time.
The Performance Concentration offers students who desire a more intensive educational experience in Acting and directing an opportunity for focused study in these areas. All students desiring to pursue a concentration in Performance are required to complete an entrance audition prior to admission in the concentration. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in Theatre Arts with a Concentration in Performance must complete a total of 58 semester hours of theatre study in addition to the university's general education requirement. Of these courses, 39 are required of the Theatre Arts Major. The concentration consists of 19 credit hours of course work offered in a specific sequence. Of these 19 hours students have 9 hours of lower division coursework and 10 hours of upper division.
