Austin College

The theatre emphasis in the Department of Communication Studies includes the study of playscripts and the crafts of theatre-making. Students have access to facilities such as a 500-seat modified proscenium theatre, a black box experimental theatre, a scenery construction shop, a costume shop, and light and sound production areas. Austin College has an active chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, a national honorary dramatic fraternity. Students participating in theatre productions earn points toward membership in the national fraternity.

Film studies investigates the wide range of approaches to understanding and interpreting cinema, both historically and in contemporary society. Students will become familiar with the history of film production, distribution, and consumption, and the major philosophical and critical approaches applied to the study of film. Students may take courses in film history and analysis, national and world cinemas, and cinema in relation to other academic disciplines.
