The Acting Program At...

Austin Community College

The public face of ACC’s Drama Department is in its performances which have charmed Austin citizens for the past decade. Performed either in the Mainstage Theater or the Gallery Theater at the Rio Grande Campus, performances have included an ambitious selection of musicals (Hair and Anything Goes), traditional plays (Our Town, Blood Wedding), avant–garde theater (The Avant Garde Event and Funnyhouse of a Negro), and original works such as Somewhere West of Love (by Department Chair, Shelby Brammer, performed outdoors), and In 2 the West, a revival of Austin’s celebrated work by Big State Productions, with new monologues written and performed by ACC Creative Writing and Drama students.

Behind the scenes, the department offers a full selection of classes in acting, voice and diction, stage movement, make-up, costuming, and technical theatre. The department’s Introduction to Theater is also a core–curriculum class for most majors.

Offering entry and early career training with courses in: Acting I–III (Stage, Film, & Classical Technique), Stagecraft I–II(Technique & Design), Stage Movement, Play Reading and Analysis, Stage Make–up, Voice and Diction, & Introduction to Theatre.
