The ETBU Theatre Arts Department is an active, vibrant program that seeks to provide opportunities that inspire, encourage, and challenge our students to grow in their studies, their art, and their faith. Our production seasons are designed to offer students a wide variety of experiences with genres, styles, and venues. Students are given many performance and technical opportunities whether through our mainstage, Hilltop Players productions or our student led, Discovery Series productions. Whether you seek theatre as a major, a minor, or even just as an extra-curricular activity, there is ample opportunity for you to join us.
One of the great benefits any theatre program can offer its students is opportunity. Our Theatre Department prides itself on its ability to do just that. Every theatre student is given a new chance to learn and grow each semester, either as an actor on stage or crew backstage. Students are given a variety of crew positions; each designed to give students hands-on experience in many different areas of theatre-related fields, such as, costumes, props, construction, painting, or lighting. Students are also given opportunities to lead as heads of crew, or as stage, theatre, or box office managers while working under a faculty director. Each new class offers additional opportunity to build a portfolio, master a new skill, or gain invaluable knowledgethat will benefit the students as they prepare to enter the professional world and/or graduate school programs.
The Department of Theatre Arts offers pre-professional majors designed to provide a broad foundation for careers in theatre. The curriculum currently consists of courses in performance, as well as playwriting, theatre history, technical theatre, and design. The Performance concentration offers the Theatre Arts Major the opportunity to focus on performance aspects of theatre, specifically acting and directing. One of the two concentrations offered or a minor from another department must be selected.
