The Acting Program At...
Schreiner University

The Schreiner University Theatre Department offers students a variety of coursework in theatre basics leading to a major in theatre, a chance to direct in their junior and senior years, as well as participating in all the other vital aspects of live-theatrical performance (i.e. lighting, set construction, stage managing, sound, costumes, etc.) Schreiner's Hanszen Fine Arts Theatre averages four productions per year (two per semester), each rendering students an outlet to develop their acting and technical abilities within an intimate setting with a capacity of 75-100. For theatre majors, there are internships available through two regional theatres: the Smith-Ritch Theatre at the Hill Country Arts Foundation and at Playhouse 2000.
Schreiner offers courses leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Theatre. The Theatre program supports the standards of liberal arts education expressed in the philosophy of the University. Both lower and upper level courses in theatre prepare students for careers in professional, educational, and community theatre programs, as well as further and more specific study in graduate theatre programs. Individualized instruction is emphasized in certain upper level theatre courses through internship opportunities, as well as performance responsibilities. This program emphasizes a strong, general foundation in theatre basics. Majors may pursue either a technical or performance theatre focus.
