The regionally and nationally recognized Department of Theatre, Dance, and Film at the University of Texas-El Paso offers BA and MA degrees in theatre, a BFA in Musical Theatre, a BFA in Dance, as well as minors in theatre, dance, and film. The faculty and staff are recognized educators and award-winning professionals who put their students first. We focus on developing complete artists, balancing professional training and academics. The department has a very active and high quality production program where students have garnered many significant awards and honors. Students have many opportunities to practice and study as designers, playwrights, actors, directors, choreographers, dancers, and filmmakers. Department faculty and staff are also actively involved in scholarly research, publication, and have distinguished reputations in many highly regarded professional organizations. There have been many new developments in our production and academic programs, including new outstanding faculty, curriculum, community outreach, and technical theatre. The University of Texas-El Paso Department of Theatre, Dance and Film is rooted in the liberal arts tradition to help prepare its students for careers in both professional and academic theatre, television, and film. The department provides thorough training in contemporary performance practices and thorough study of theatre and film history, dramatic literature, aesthetic, and theory. The department also helps students to develop conceptual, critical and argumentation skills fundamental to a liberal arts education. Instruction emphasizes cultural, social, and historical traditions that helped to create and continue to sustain dramatic theatre, television, and film. The faculty encourages a global perspective of performance through training that fosters an awareness of the intellectual, social, and political life of the contemporary world. Finally, the department seeks to visibly contribute to the quality of life in El Paso and the surrounding region by offering works of artistic merit that reflect the multicultural characteristics of its geographical location.
