UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING

The University of Wyoming is the only provider of baccalaureate and graduate education in a state of some one-half million people and 98,000 square miles. Combining major-university benefits and small-school advantages, we offer our students a truly unique and quality educational experience.

UW stands at the forefront in the exploration of emerging technologies and concepts, giving our students the types of hands-on involvement and one-on-one attention rarely found at other colleges and universities. And we also continue to be recognized nationally as one of the best values in higher education.

UW opened on September 6, 1887, with one building, five professors, two tutors, and 42 students, who studied philosophy, arts, literature, and sciences.

Today, we provide our 13,000 students more than 180 programs of study at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels; an outstanding faculty; and world-class research facilities —all set against the idyllic backdrop of southeastern Wyoming’s rugged mountains and high plains.

Our Town

UW’s high-plains home, Laramie is a friendly and welcoming community of 25,000 residents nestled on a high plain between two mountain ranges in the southeastern corner of Wyoming.

UW students and visitors enjoy both a special blend of Laramie’s western hospitality and the comfortable sophistication that comes from the influence of a major university.

Campus Life

UW students are encouraged to become active members of the campus community and develop their full potential. Superior academic programs, combined with plentiful opportunities for a wide range of cultural activities and outdoor recreation, provide a challenging, healthy, enjoyable lifestyle on campus.

The newly renovated Wyoming Union is the hub of campus, featuring the University Bookstore, numerous eating establishments, computer workstations, a recreation center, and much more. Steps away from the Union, students can work out at Half-Acre Gym or study at Coe Library.

When students aren’t in class or studying, they can participate in university clubs and attend outstanding cultural programs — including films, concerts, theater performances, comedy acts, and planetarium shows.

Or they can head for the outdoors and fantastic recreational activities in the Snowy Range and Medicine Bow Mountains — including skiing and snowboarding, hiking, camping, backpacking, bicycling, fly-fishing, and rock climbing.

With the abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities at students’ doorsteps, it’s easy to understand why Laramie, home of UW, was recently voted one of America’s top 40 college towns by Outside magazine.
